This is a recast of the original coin from the Platrides Family Collection. This is a Roman Coin of Emperor Augustus Aureus, who reigned as Roman Emperor between 27 B.C and 14 A.D. This specific coin was struck in the Ancient Spanish Mint of Emerita between 19 B.C and 18 B.C. The front side of the coin features a "Flying Victory" with spread wings and the letters S.P.Q.R. SPQR is an abbreviation for "Senātus Populusque Rōmānus" which translates to: "The Roman Senate and People" or more freely "The Senate and People of Rome". This is an emblematic abbreviated phrase referring to the government of the ancient Roman Republic. The reverse of the coin features the Head of Emperor Augustus.
